Gainesville Residential Internet Coverage

Gainesville, a city that is home to retirees, university students, and growing families, is primarily covered by a few major regional and national internet service providers.

Both fiber and DSL are available through AT&T. The company_s fiber network is a work in progress, slowly expanding from highly populated areas to more remote neighborhoods.

DSL covers the majority of Gainesville, with a service area ranging from northwest Gainesville down to the Archer Road neighborhood in the south. In the eastern part of the city, AT&T DSL is available as far east as the downtown area, providing coverage to most downtown businesses and residential pockets.

Windstream covers quite a bit of eastern Gainesville. Service begins in the eastern part of Sorority Row and stretches into the downtown area. Other covered areas include Mid Town and northeast Gainesville. Windstream does not currently have most of western Gainesville in its service area.

I had to give up on Cox after a month or more of no service. I sat alone with a little radio and had no TV no computer or tablet. It was terrible. Desperate I went to a company that uses phone towers. The speed was perfect and the streaming wonderful. But it cost more and more as the month wore on. Despite takingthe highest data available, it was not enough for a single person with one tv and one computer. So far this month including set up fee I have spent almost 400 dollars.

The most incompetent isp I have ever had the displeasure of using. It has taken them over a week to place my modem with a new one, which hasn't even fixed the issue of not having internet. Their customer service is non-existent, they will lie to you to not send a technician out. Use an actual internet service provider such as ATT or Comcast.

A t and t will not upgrade our subdivision even though fiber run down the road in front our subdivision. If you get off dsl service then you have no offer of any kind of internet service from att.or any other major provider.
